Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are a type of fat-like substances that are found in hemp and also made by other plants and the human body. They are the main chemicals that the cannabis plant produces.
Hemp can naturally create more than 100 different kinds of phytocannabinoids that do not cause intoxication. The most well-known of these is Cannabidiol (CBD). Some others are Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC), Cannabinol (CBN), and more.
Releifta’s Web extracts use a special mix of hemp’s phytocannabinoids, along with terpenes, flavonoids, and other beneficial hemp substances to help the body.
Cannabinoids have direct or indirect effects on the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is found in all living things except insects.
What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a network of cell receptors in a mammal’s body. Scientists found this system in the 1990s.
Phytocannabinoids interact with the mammalian Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is a large receptor system that helps keep homeostasis and overall good health. * This receptor system is present in the whole body, including the immune system, the central nervous system, and many organs. The ECS takes in our body’s own endocannabinoids and the phytocannabinoids from hemp.
The ECS is made to support cells and healthy immune system function, in response to changes in our external environment. * A human’s ECS influences many parts of the body, including functions of the immune system, the central nervous system (including the brain), organs, connective tissue, and glands.
The ECS helps with various biological functions, such as energy & balance, immune function, memory, metabolism, sleep, and the function of the autonomic nervous system. *
Relieftas products are full-spectrum extracts that have a variety of beneficial compounds from hemp, including phytocannabinoids and other phytocompounds (such as terpenes and flavonoids) that work to support your body’s endocannabinoid system.
Adding cannabinoids from plants (phytocannabinoids) can help our body’s endocannabinoids, and the ECS’s main receptors, CB1 and CB2. This helps to keep proper balance.
What is the Entourage Effect?
The Entourage Effect is a term that was created in 1998 by two scientists from Israel to explain their results that using a mix of natural substances from cannabis is more helpful than using only one isolated substance.
Releifta’s products are full-spectrum extracts that have a range of phytochemicals. These helpful compounds have different phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.

SENDS™ Technology - Revolutionizing Drug Delivery
Where was SENDS™ developed?
SENDS™ technology was created in 2019 by Dr. Noi Obias, a renowned scientist with a PhD in bioinorganic and medicinal chemistry from Johns Hopkins and postdoctoral expertise from MIT. Building on years of groundbreaking research in drug delivery systems, including his doctoral work on improving absorption for oil-based medications, Dr. Obias combined his academic achievements with over 25 years of global product development experience. At Landrace Bioscience, he engineered and patented SENDS, blending innovative emulsifying permeability techniques with advanced technology to redefine how therapeutic compounds are absorbed and utilized by the body. This technology was then transferred to the UM BioPark team where the team is working on this groundbreaking advancement to redefined how therapeutic compounds are delivered, offering new possibilities in pain management and beyond.
What are some achievements of SENDS™?
SENDS™ has secured over $10M in initial development investment, incorporates proprietary formulations for precise therapeutic delivery, and powers products like Reliefta, which exemplify innovation with enhanced absorption and lasting relief.
What is the cost advantage of SENDS™?
SENDS™ technology offers a significant cost advantage by enhancing the efficiency of drug delivery and improving the absorption of therapeutic compounds in the body. This increased bioavailability means lower doses can achieve the desired effect, reducing raw material requirements and manufacturing expenses. For manufacturers, this translates to streamlined production and lower costs. For consumers, it can lead to more affordable treatments thanks to optimized formulations and reduced waste, making high-quality healthcare solutions more accessible.
Advantages of SENDS™ Technology
How does SENDS™ improve drug solubility?
SENDS™ optimizes micelle technology to solubilize highly lipophilic drugs, making them more bioavailable, stable, and easier to administer. This is particularly valuable for drugs that traditionally face absorption challenges.
How does SENDS™ enhance drug permeability?
SENDS™ enables drugs to permeate complex biological barriers, such as the blood-brain and intestinal epithelium, more effectively. This ensures that treatments reach their intended targets efficiently, improving therapeutic outcomes.
SENDS™ Building Blocks and Key Components
What are the key components of SENDS™ Technology?
SENDS™ technology incorporates four key building blocks: liposomes, micelles, lipoids, and Self-Emulsifying Drug Delivery Systems (SEDDS).
What are liposomes, and how do they function in SENDS™?
Liposomes are spherical vesicles made from lipids, primarily phospholipids, that form a bilayer structure around an aqueous core. They can encapsulate hydrophilic drugs in their core and lipophilic drugs within their bilayer, making them invaluable for complex drug delivery tasks.
